12KBW is delighted to announce that Tim Petts has been appointed as a Circuit Judge. He will be assigned to the Wales Circuit with effect from 2nd March 2018, splitting his time between Cardiff County Court and Caernarfon Crown Court.
Tim was called in 1996 and accepted an offer of tenancy in 1997 after his pupillage with 12KBW. Since then he has practised predominately in the field of personal injury, where he developed particular interests in local authority and occupiers’ liability claims. In 2008, he was appointed to the Wales Circuit as a Recorder in the Crown Court, and he has been authorised to sit in the County Court since 2011. He lives in Anglesey with his wife (the Welsh historian, Sara Elin Roberts) and their two children, and he has learnt Welsh to a good standard with their help. He has been one of the co-authors of Kemp & Kemp Personal Injury Law, Practice and Procedure since its first publication in 2005, and became its General Editor in 2017. He also served on the Inner Temple Bar Liaison Committee and the Bar Council Ethics Committee, as well as on the 12KBW Management Committee.
We offer him and his family our warmest congratulations on his appointment.
