Email fraud warning

Names can be misused by others for illegitimate purposes. In particular we are aware of a number of bogus emails or letters having been received by individuals in many parts of the world, falsely claiming to be from 12 King’s Bench Chambers or individuals from 12 King’s Bench Walk Chambers.

For example, some such messages indicate that the addressee of the email/letter has inherited a substantial sum of money, and go on to ask the recipient for personal information and/or money.  They may appear to be sent using or in the name of a current member of Chambers.  Communications of this type will be part of a scam or “Phishing” exercise run by individuals using Chambers’ name or those of individual members illegally and without authorisation.  If brought to our attention we report the police/counter-fraud agencies.  We hope in this way to counter the illegitimate use of Chambers’ name or those of its members.

If you have received such a communication it is strongly advised that you ignore it, and do not respond to it or communicate further with the person who sent the email/letter to you.
