Jessica Muurman
Jessica specialises in all aspects of Personal Injury law, with a particular focus on aviation and international injury, as well as clinical negligence and industrial disease. Further to her individual case load, Jessica is frequently instructed in some of the largest group injury claims in these areas.
Before coming to the Bar, Jessica studied biomedical sciences where she graduated with a first-class degree. In her legal studies she obtained a distinction in both the GDL and Bar Course, and was supported by Inn and institution scholarships.
Personal Injury
Jessica regularly appears in, or advises on, both living and fatal claims involving public liability, employer liability, and claims involving road traffic accidents. She appears unled in both the High Court and County Court, and manages a sizeable caseload acting for both claimants and defendants.
Jessica is an experienced trial advocate, who appears regularly in liability and quantum disputes, including those with legal complexities such as provisional damages and fundamental dishonesty. She further accepts instructions in all preliminary and disposal hearings, including CCMCs and applications in fast-track and multi-track matters.

Jessica has developed an increasing specialism in aviation injury work, and has recently undertaken a secondment at a Tier-1 Aviation firm, where she has been exposed to high value and complex cases.
Jessica has been instructed on wide scale catastrophic air accidents, including the Air India 171 accident of 12 June 2025, and the LaMia Flight 2933 Air Accident of 28 November 2016, both resulting in wide scale fatalities. Jessica also has a significant case load of claims brought by individual claimants, with claims both caught by, and pursued outside, the Montreal Convention.

Within Jessica’s international personal injury practice, she deals confidently in claims brought under the Package Travel Regulations, the Athens Convention, and the Montreal Convention.
Jessica is able to advise on cases raising intricate issues of jurisdiction, applicable law, liability and quantum, and is experienced in handling Rome II and the recast Brussels Regulations.

The breadth of Jessica’s personal injury practice means she is a go-to junior in group litigation cases. Recent examples of group claims include:
- Air India 171 – Jessica represents families of those killed in the devastating Air India accident of 12 June 2025.
- Rugby Concussion Litigation – led by William Audland KC, Jessica acts for the Ruby Football League and the British Amateur Rugby League Association in the high-profile head injury litigation.
- Harrods Abuse – led by Michael Rawlinson KC, Jessica acts for the survivors of the widescale sexual abuse perpetrated by former Harrods owner Mohamed Al-Fayed.
- LaMia Flight 2933 Air Accident – Jessica is instructed for the injured passengers and the families of the deceased following the LaMia Flight 2933 disaster of 28 November 2016.
- Military – Jessica acts for military veterans in claims against the Ministry of Defence arising from service-related injuries, including non-freezing cold injuries and hearing loss.
Clinical Negligence
Jessica has a keen interest in all areas of clinical negligence, and accepts instructions in both fatal and living cases. She has experience in a number of medical disciplines, vascular injury, cancer diagnoses, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, dentistry, as well as nursing care.
Jessica has a particular interest in obstetrics, gynaecology, and urology, the medical backgrounds of which formed a significant part of her biomedical sciences degree. Her scientific academic background means Jessica is well-placed to understand and quickly grasp complex medical and biological issues that arise in these cases.

Jessica represents parties at inquests, including pre-inquest review hearings. She has particular experience in fatal accidents arising from allegations of clinical negligence and within the aviation context, and is keen to develop this area of her practice.

Jessica is instructed in industrial disease litigation, including injuries arising as a result of asbestos exposure; she is experienced with the disease procedure, including show cause hearings.
Jessica has further experience of claims in the military context, including in claims for non-freezing cold injuries and noise induced hearing loss.

Through her ProBono work prior to joining the Bar, Jessica worked on a number of cases including claims brought against the police and public bodies. She is adept at dealing with cases sensitively yet robustly, and is keen to develop this area of practice.

Jessica has experience advising in insurance disputes, including cases concerning policy scope and exclusion clauses, in a variety of contexts, including: property damage, defective workmanship, and private healthcare policies. She also has experience in cases with indemnity disputes between parties, for example between primary and subsidiary companies.
Jessica is also well versed with cases involving indemnity disputes between insurers in the road traffic arena. She has experience of cases under the MIB Uninsured Drivers Agreement and the MIB Untraced Drivers Agreement.
Jessica is the current author of Lexis+ Insurance: Part VI Road Traffic Act (RTA) 1988 and Motor Insurance Bureau agreements (57927).
