Finn Selman

Finn is regularly instructed in personal injury matters dealing with complicated breach of duty, causation and quantum issues involving public liability, occupier’s liability, employer’s liability and road traffic accidents. Finn accepts instructions for both claimants and defendants.

He is an experienced courtroom advocate who has experience and an interest in cases featuring allegations of fundamental dishonesty.

He is frequently instructed in the full spectrum of preliminary and disposal hearings particularly CCMCs, application hearings and infant approval hearings.

Finn’s busy paperwork practice in this area includes having drafted pleadings in a tricky employer liability dispute which involved the injury of a healthcare professional following an attack by a mental health patient.

Finn has experience in a number of medical fields including oncology, dentistry, orthopaedics, psychiatry, plastic surgery, and radiology. He is routinely instructed in disputes where there are complicated causation and quantum arguments, attending court hearings, advising on liability and quantum and drafting pleadings.

Finn gained a wealth of experience dealing with high value serious injury clinical negligence claims during his time working as a paralegal at Stewarts Law LLP in the clinical negligence team. The types of cases he dealt with included misdiagnoses of cancer, brain and spinal cord injuries and severe birth injuries.

A recent case of note was where Finn drafted pleadings in a fatal misdiagnosis of bowel cancer claim with a reserve of £250,000.

Finn appears regularly in the Employment Tribunal and has been instructed in matters traversing discrimination, unfair dismissal, contractual disputes and unlawful deductions from wages.

Finn has an established paperwork practice in this area with instructions to advise and draft pleadings in a range of employment disputes involving complex legal issues such as unlawful deductions of wages and the TUPE regulations.

Finn has also recently advised on and drafted pleadings for a knotty disability discrimination claim involving potential Human Rights Act breaches being brought by a prisoner against the Secretary of State for Justice.

Finn is a volunteer for Advocate.

Finn has been instructed in cases involving indemnity disputes between insurers in road traffic cases with issues involving the MIB Uninsured Drivers Agreement, the MIB Untraced Drivers Agreement and European Communities (Rights Against Insurers) Regulations.

Finn accepts instructions for both claimants and defendants in international and travel claims and has experience in cases governed by Rome II, claims brought under the Montreal Convention and the Package Travel Regulations.

Finn’s paperwork practice includes recently having been instructed to draft pleadings in a claim under the Montreal Convention which concerned a passenger suffering a serious knee injury during a flight with a major airline.

Finn played high level competitive sport throughout school and university with a specific focus on rugby union, which he continues to play for Belsize Park RFC.

His background in sport has produced a keen interest in sports disputes. This is something that Finn developed in pupillage for example when he worked on written submissions for a golfer’s disciplinary tribunal hearing.

Finn co-authored the Anti-Doping Chapter of LawInSport’s Annual Review 2025/26 and an article for LawInSport about the judgment in Pogba v Nado Italia.
