James Pickering, led by James Counsell KC, secured £900,000 on behalf of a former Royal Navy chef at a settlement meeting on 5 September 2025. They were instructed by Nia-Wyn Evans and Annalisa Magno of Hugh James.
The claimant’s military career had been cut short after she suffered a non-freezing cold injury during exposure to extremely cold conditions on an exercise in Norway. She was medically discharged due to her injuries and her aspiration to serve as a chef in the submarine service was destroyed. The settlement is understood to be one of the highest ever achieved for this kind of injury.
